Samantha Ekanem Mrs. Nelson Preà AP English 2 24 August 2015 To Kill A Mocking Bird From Trayvon Martin to ââ¬ËBlack Lives Matterââ¬â¢ People have different opinions and views on subjects and we wonââ¬â¢t always agree with them or understand why they think that way. ââ¬Å"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.â⬠I like that Atticus is teaching his kids valuable lessons. We donââ¬â¢t know what makes someone act or dress or do the things they do, so we make assumptions and conclusions in order to ââ¬Å"understandâ⬠, but the only true way of understanding someone is through sympathy and compassion. I value this next quote because I believe a lot of what Atticus is saying still applies today. Not just white men cheating black men but white people in general cheat colored people everyday simply for being white. ââ¬Å"As you grow older, you ll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don t you forget it - whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, he is trash.â⬠For example in todayââ¬â¢s society we have wage gaps, people get paid based on what their race is even if they share the same job and do the same work. Even though today we like to deny racism exists, it does we just chose to ignore it. Again in the book we see Atticus teaching his children that making assumptions and
